Chateau Safflyn (Rostropovich Mansion) :: 1983
Mstilav Rostropovich offered this beautiful home as a token of his love to his wife, Galina. The 8,300 sq ft mansion was designed and built in 1983 by Louis Bakanowsky, chair of the Harvard School of Architecture. Its notable features include a Ballroom with a fireplace, the music studio designed to Rostropovich's specifications, master and junior suites, 7 1/2 bathrooms, spacious kitchen, a private chapel, outdoor decks and incredible views from every window. Its design incorporated the most state-of-the-art security system available at the time.

Robinson Cemetery (The Garden in the Woods)
The final resting place of family members to 3 U.S. Presidents, this cemetery was a gesture of the love the Robinson family had for their summer retreat. "The Garden in the Woods" was the title of an article written by the Herkimer Historical Society.

Gelston Castle :: 1832
Harriett Douglas, daughter to George and Margaret Douglas, built this summer mansion 200 ft. from her mother's cottage home once she inherited land from the estate. When she visited the family castle, Gelston Castle, in Scotland as a young girl she vowed to one day build a replica of her own. Though it's said that it isn't as lavish as the original, this grandious structure was built to her specifications including her demand it be built with stone. It is said that they carried the stone blocks all the way from Little Falls, fourteen miles in the snow.

Apple Orchards (Planted by Eleanor Roosevelt)
Throughout the property there are apple trees dating back to Eleanor Roosevelt's visits to the estate. Still making great apple pies...

Henderson House :: 1787
Twenty-four room wood cottage built by Henderson heiress Margaret Douglas as a summer home, where she lived with her husband George and six children. The Robinson and Roosevelt families spent more than 100 years inside its walls enjoying its country warmth. Most recognizable of these visitors is U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, who spent his childhood summers on the property and whose sister Corinne, married his best friend, Douglas Robinson, jr., owner of the property.

The Barn :: 1750
Queen Ann Style Barn that is rumored to be the place where Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. and Douglas Robinson, Jr. sparred as boxing partners. Also used as a performance center by Rostropovich.

Reflecting Pond
This pond provides a rejuvenating experience for the summer recluse and serves as a reflection pool to Gelston Castle. Summertime fishing has become a popular pastime on this 3/4 acre body of water.

The Community Pond
Residing on Galina Lane, it warmly welcomes visitors to the property. With its small boat house and inviting charm, the community pond is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon having a picnic or intimate gathering.
